Benjamin Jaber, horn, is a young artist of diverse accomplishment. A native of Philadelphia, he was born into a musical family and began horn studies at age ten. He is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, and is currently in the professional studies program at the Colburn Conservatory where he studies with David Jolley. Mr. Jaber has performed with the Louisiana Philharmonic, the Richmond, Houston, and New World symphonies, the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, and IRIS Chamber Orchestra, and has toured with the Burning River Brass. Currently in his fifth consecutive summer here at Aspen, he plays third horn in the Aspen Festival Orchestra and studies with John Zirbel. He previously attended the National Orchestral Institute and the Pacific Music Festival. As a soloist, Mr. Jaber received first prize at the American Horn Competition and the Aspen Brass Concerto Competition, and has made solo appearances in Houston, Aspen, and Los Angeles, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Margaret Batjer, Gary Levinson, Peter Stumpf, Yehuda Gilad, Allan Vogel, and John Perry. He performs on a horn handcrafted and custom-made for him by Keith Berg of Canada.
