Laura Park Chen, violin, is a former member of the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra and Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. At the age of nineteen, she joined the Philadelphia Orchestra, and, beginning in 1991, served as assistant concertmaster with the Boston Symphony for five years. She then became concertmaster of the Brooklyn Philharmonic and guest concertmaster of the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Ms. Chen has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Korean Broadcasting System Orchestra, Lithuanian National Philharmonic, and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. In 1995, she performed the John Adams Violin Concerto with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra and with the Louisville Orchestra to honor the composer, recipient of the 1995 Grawemeyer Award. In 1998, she gave the New York premiere of Ligeti’s Violin Concerto with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, also performed with the New World Symphony. Ms. Chen has participated in chamber music performances at the AMFS, Tanglewood, Marlboro Festival, and with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players. She studied with Jascha Brodsky and Arnold Steinhardt at The Curtis Institute of Music. In addition to being a former faculty member of the Boston Conservatory and Round Top Festival, she has coached at Juilliard, New England Conservatory, and DePaul University.
