Pianist and vocal coach Grant Loehnig serves as Head of Music Staff at Opera Philadelphia and is on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. He also works regularly on the music staff of Lyric Opera of Chicago. His recital credits include collaborations with John Holiday, Susanne Mentzer, Morris Robinson, Paul Groves, and Marcus DeLoach. Recent recordings include Carlisle Floyd songs with Susanne Mentzer, art songs of Karim Al-Zand, the premiere recording of David Hertzberg’s The Wake World, and the premiere of a piece by Tyshawn Sorey written expressly for countertenor John Holiday and Grant.

For over 10 years Loehnig served as Head of Music Staff for Wolf Trap Opera. For Houston Symphony, he prepared the chorus and small roles for performances of Wozzeck, awarded the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. He studied at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Manhattan School of Music, and is a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, Music Academy of the West, and San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program. Before joining the Curtis Institute faculty, he served on the faculty of Rice University in Houston.
