Sharon Isbin, multi Grammy Award–winning guitarist and winner of the Toronto, Munich, and Madrid competitions, gives up to 100 performances each season. Her latest recording, Alma Espaola with Isabel Leonard, is the first Spanish art song album of its kind in 40 years and includes 12 world premiere arrangements by Isbin. Other recent #1 bestselling titles include Sharon Isbin: 5 Classic Albums, and Guitar Passions with guests Stanley Jordan, Romero Lubambo, and Steve Vai. She received Grammys for Dreams of a World, Concerti by Christopher Rouse/Tan Dun, and Journey to the New World, which spent 63 weeks on top Billboard charts. Among her 25 recordings are Bach’s lute suites created in collaboration with Rosalyn Tureck, Scorsese’s Oscar-winning The Departed soundtrack, and concertos written for her by Corigliano, Foss, and Schwantner. She received a Latin Grammy nomination for concertos with the New York Philharmonic, their only guitar recording, and has been honored with Germany’s Echo Klassik Award, Gramophone’s Recording of the Year, and Guitar Player’s Best Guitarist award. Recent highlights include tours with the Pacifica String Quartet, a twenty-city “Guitar Passions” tour, and the premiere of Chris Brubeck’s concerto Affinity. She served as artistic director-soloist of festivals she created for Carnegie Hall and NPR, authored the Classical Guitar Answer Book, and directs guitar departments at AMFS and at Juilliard where she is the program’s founding director.
