Rite of Spring, Daniil Trifonov

Ushering in the season theme of “The Adoration of the Earth,” the program features Brian Raphael Nabors’ Of Earth and Sky: Tales from the Motherland and Stravinsky's groundbreaking The Rite of Spring. Daniil Trifonov brings his astounding technique and interpretive genius to Gershwin's Piano Concerto.
Maxim Vengerov Plays Mendelssohn Violin Concerto

Recognized as one of the world's greatest string players, Maxim Vengerov is not a soloist to miss. In this concert, he performs Mendelssohn's lyrical Violin Concerto, a work full of beautiful tunes and a joyously vibrant finale. It’s no wonder this work has been an audience favorite since its premiere in 1845. Joining him is energetic conductor Nicholas McGegan, who also leads the orchestra in Schubert's Sixth Symphony and a curated selection of some of the esteemed composer's rarely-performed orchestral songs.
Augustin Hadelich, Dennehy and Wagner

Inspired by Hadelich’s astonishing technique, eloquent phrasing, and seeming effortlessness, Donnacha Dennehy composed his first multi-movement concerto especially for him. Following the world-renowned violinist's sure-to-stun appearance is Dutch composer Henk de Vlieger's concert suite arrangement of Richard Wagner's The Ring. Experience the sublime artistry of Augustin Hadelich in a piece composed with him in mind, and some of the most spectacular orchestral music ever composed for the opera or concert stage!
Conlon Conducts Mendelssohn, Mahler

In this Aspen Festival Orchestra concert, charismatic pianist Lise de la Salle performs Mendelssohn's lesser-known but equally as evocative Second Piano Concerto. Conductor James Conlon leads the orchestra in a performance of Gustav Mahler's six-movement orchestral song cycle Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth). Thrill to the artistry of Lise de la Salle and be moved by Mahler’s most personal work sung by a pair of internationally renowned soloists.
Spano Leads Mahler's Third Symphony

In a list of works exemplifying the season theme of “The Adoration of the Earth,” Mahler’s 3rd Symphony would be near the top. This gigantic and glorious six-movement hymn to Nature is the longest symphony in the standard repertoire. It’s also one of Mahler’s most optimistic, extroverted works. The Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra plays Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra

Program Director and AMFS Music Director Robert Spano observes the work of his students at this weekly event. This week's program includes Stucky's Rhapsodies and Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra.
Mozart's Idomeneo

World-renowned tenor Matthew Polenzani joins the talented artist-fellows of the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program in a striking performance of Mozart’s Idomeneo—a rarely-performed work that showcases Mozart’s operatic genius at its most grand. The opera tells a remarkable tale of power, love, and sacrifice after Idomeneo, King of Crete, emerges victorious in the Trojan war but encounters a great storm as he sails home. Beautiful arias and tremendous choral scenes highlight why this opera seria is regarded as Mozart’s earliest operatic masterpiece. Go on an adventure within the grand space of the Benedict Music Tent as this mythical dramatic opera comes to life.
Final Sunday: Haydn's Creation
