What Instrument Can I Study?
Instruments of study include Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion, Harp, Piano, Guitar*, and Voice.

Do you want to study an instrument not listed here?  Contact us!  We may be able to accommodate your request.

* AMFS Guitar students/teachers are only in residence during the second half of the AMFS summer festival season: July 22–August 18, 2024. Guitar lessons will only take place during this time, and a limited number of guitar teachers are available through Festival Lessons.

Who Will My Teacher Be?
Your teacher will be an AMFS student who has been specially selected to teach in Festival Lessons.  We carefully pair students and teachers to be sure that assigned teachers can best meet the specific needs of their students.

When Do Lessons Take Place?
Once you've been assigned a Festival Lessons teacher, you'll work with that teacher to schedule lessons according to your shared availability.

Private lessons through the Festival Lessons program will begin on or after the start of the AMFS summer festival season - around June 26.  All lessons need to be completed by the last day of the AMFS summer festival season (August 20).

Please Note: The Festival Lesson program is NOT available outside of this time range.  If you would like to hire a musician for private lessons outside of the summer months, a courtesy listing is provided here of local musicians who frequently work with the AMFS and come highly recommended.

Where Do Lessons Take Place?
Private lessons through the Festival Lessons program take place on the AMFS's Bucksbaum Campus (225 Music School Road - Aspen, CO 81611).

Do I Need to Have My Own Instrument?
Yes.  The AMFS does not supply instruments for students in Festival Lessons (unless they are enrolled in Beginning Strings, Chamber Music Lab, or Lead Guitar during the school year and have already been granted an instrument scholarship).  You must provide your own instrument for use in lessons and during practice at home.
