Charles Prestinari, chorus master, is a faculty member of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, teaching collaborative piano (vocal) and serving as an opera coach. He was chorus master of the San Diego Opera from 2011–16. From 2004–11, he was associated with New York City Opera, first as assistant chorus master, and from 2007 as chorus master, working on over fifty productions, including an Emmy-winning Live from Lincoln Center telecast of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Dr. Prestinari has also appeared as guest conductor of The National Chorale and has prepared choruses for the New York City Ballet and Manhattan School of Music. While obtaining masters and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from Indiana University, Dr. Prestinari held the positions of chorus master and opera coach with the Indiana University Opera Theater, directed the Indiana University Chorale, and served as assistant director of the school’s touring choir, The Singing Hoosiers. He has also held accompanist positions with the Carmel Bach Festival, Brevard Summer Music Festival, Opera San Antonio, and the National Chorale. An active church musician, he most recently served as associate organist of The First United Methodist Church of San Diego, and currently serves as choir director of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Bloomington, Indiana.
