Winner of the 2018 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, Berlin-based American conductor Roderick Cox has won praise and international attention for recent appearances with the world’s top orchestras. Highlights this season include debuts with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and San Francisco Opera, as well as returns to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival and School, and Chineke! Orchestra. Recent and forthcoming highlights also include performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Houston Grand Opera, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Cleveland Orchestra, and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Cox started the Roderick Cox Music Initiative (RCMI) in 2018, a project that provides scholarship funds to young musicians of color from unrepresented communities, allowing them to pay for instruments, music lessons, and summer camps. Mr. Cox and the RCMI will be featured in the upcoming documentary Conducting Life. Born in Macon, Georgia, Mr. Cox attended the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University and Northwestern University. He was awarded the Robert J. Harth Conducting Prize from the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2013 and has held fellowships with the Chicago Sinfonietta and the Chautauqua Music Festival. Mr. Cox also served as associate conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra for three seasons under conductor Osmo Vänskä.
