2023 Season Announcement Playlist (Listen)

Explore the upcoming season's programming with a curated sampling of highlights. Many of these selections capture the season's theme, Adoration of the Earth. Join us for the 74th annual Festival June 29–Aug 20 for an exploration of musical inspiration and humankind's relationship with nature.

Week 1: June 29–July 2 (Listen)

Beethoven’s tranquil Pastoral Symphony is contrasted by Britten’s turbulent yet dazzling Four Sea Interludes, reflecting the epic scope of the natural world. Stravinsky’s iconic The Rite of Spring wraps up the week in a culmination of the season's theme: The Adoration of the Earth.

Week 2: July 3–July 9 (Listen)

The Aspen Festival Band performs Hoe-Down from Copland’s Rodeo in a Fourth of July concert packed with fun. Pianist Anton Nel celebrates 25 years as an AMFS artist-faculty with Debussy's Estampes. Mendelssohn’s virtuosic Violin Concerto featuring guest artist Maxim Vengerov adds to the excitement.

Week 3: July 10–July 16 (Listen)

In week 3, Nicholas McGegan leads an evening of Baroque music featuring Bach’s Sinfonia in D major. Superstar soprano Renée Fleming presents a recital including works by Fauré and Caroline Shaw. Closing out the week is Wagner’s magnum opus The Ring Cycle reimagined into accessible concert suites.

Week 4: July 17–July 23 (Listen)

Join the AMFS in an exciting week of music including a performance of Perkinson's Blue/s Forms by Augustin Hadelich, an evening of music by Elliott Carter, Jimmy López Bellido's fiery opera Bel Canto, and Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 2 played by Lisa de la Salle and the Aspen Festival Orchestra.

Week 5: July 24–July 30 (Listen)

Week 5 begins with the music of film composer John Williams. Enjoy the explosive Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 and Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 3 in D minor. Prepare for Bavouzet's recital with works by Ravel and preview Beach's Theme and Variations prior to Saturday's Chamber Music concert.

Week 6: July 31–August 6 (Listen)

Prepare for the music ahead in Week 6 with Copland's Appalachian Spring; Debussy's Chanson de Bilitis is one of the songs on Kelley O'Connor's upcoming recital program; and the playful tone poems of Janáček and Strauss that will be featured on the Sunday Aspen Festival Orchestra concert.

Week 7: August 7–August 13 (Listen)

In week 7, journey through the awing yet unforgiving ocean of Debussy’s La mer. Prepare for Gil Shaham and Robert Spano's engaging recital with Brahms's Violin Sonata No. 3 and preview Wynton Marsalis's innovative "A Fiddler's Tale" ahead of Saturday's Chamber Music performance.

Week 8: August 14–August 20 (Listen)

In week 8, prepare for the Emerson Quartet's final Aspen concert with iconic string quartets by Ravel and Beethoven. Get a taste of Mozart's opera epic Idomeneo and experience the power of Haydn's Creation—an exuberant festival finale highlighting the season's theme: The Adoration of the Earth.

Once you have downloaded the Spotify app, find the AMFS's account by following this link or typing "aspenmusicfestival" into the Spotify search bar. Click the "Follow" button next to the AMFS logo for quick access to the profile and notifications when new playlists have been added.
