Aralee Dorough is principal flutist of the Houston Symphony and on the faculty of the Moores School of Music and the Texas Music Festival. She has traveled around the world as a member of the Houston Symphony Chamber Players. She recorded Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major with Christoph Eschenbach and the Houston Symphony for IMP Records in 1994 and made two recordings with Eschenbach and the Chamber Players for the Koch label, including a critically acclaimed rendition of Schoenberg’s Wind Quintet. Her debut solo recording, Colours, featuring music of Debussy, Bartók, Barber, and Stravinsky was released 2013. Ms. Dorough’s output has also included forays into jazz, pop, and commercial settings. She recently collaborated with her father, jazz artist and Schoolhouse Rock! composer Bob Dorough. In 1999 she gave the world premiere of Bright Sheng’s concerto, Flute Moon, which was commissioned by the Houston Symphony and presented at a gala concert broadcast live on PBS. Ms. Dorough has collaborated regularly with the Da Camera Society of Houston, Foundation for Modern Music, Musiqa, Texas Music Festival, Festival-Institute at Round Top, and the Walled City Music Festival in Derry, Ireland. Ms. Doroguh received degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and Yale School of Music, where she worked with renowned teacher Thomas Nyfenger.
