Justin Bartels
Justin Bartels has served as the Principal Trumpet of the Colorado Symphony since July 2008. Previously he was Principal Trumpet with the Columbus Symphony and had a three-year fellowship with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. In addition, he has held Principal Trumpet positions with the Central City Opera and Augusta Symphony.
Originally from Pelham, Alabama, Justin attended college at The University of Alabama, The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and has a degree in Trumpet Performance from The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is a student of Marie Speziale, John Rommel, Ed Cord, Alan Siebert, Michael Johnson and Joe Ardovino.
Justin has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Houston Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, The New York City Ballet, Alabama Symphony, and the Virginia Symphony.
In addition to orchestral performance, Justin has over 15 years of teaching experience at the collegiate level. He currently serves as the Instructor of Trumpet at Colorado State University. He has previously been on faculty at the University of Denver, Regis University, Metropolitan State University, and the University of Colorado. His impact on the field is reflected in the success of his students, many of whom now hold prominent positions in professional orchestras, elite military bands, and arts administration.
Justin is a Yamaha performing artist.
