Beth Guterman Chu is one of the most sought after violists of her generation. Before joining the St. Louis Symphony as principal in 2013, she was a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Ms. Chu has collaborated with artists including Gil Shaham, Itzhak Perlman, Joseph Kalichstein, Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Wu Han, and members of the Guarneri, Emerson, and Orion quartets, and has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Tzadik, Naxos, and the CMS Studio Recordings. She has been a member of the East Coast Chamber Orchestra since 2008 and Iris Chamber Orchestra since 2001. Ms. Chu participates in summer festivals including Marlboro, Music@Menlo, Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, and Seattle Chamber Music Society. This is her third summer on artist-faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she was previously a fellowship student for five summers and first winner Nakamichi Low Strings Competition in 2001. Ms. Chu received her artist diploma at the New England Conservatory and her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Juilliard. She studied with Masao Kawasaki, Kim Kashkashian, Catharine Carroll, and Misha Amory. Ms. Chu lives in St. Louis with her husband Jonathan and their three children.
