The Spiritual in Art: Bayer, Kandinsky and the Bauhaus-Aspen Connection, led by Andrew Travers

Reading Wassily Kandinsky’s watershed 1911 book “Concerning the Spiritual in Art” changed the young Herbert Bayer’s life. It inspired Bayer to go to the Bauhaus School at age 21, to study under Kandinsky and to practice multi-disciplinarily for the decades that followed in Aspen and beyond. This free event at the Bayer Center on the Aspen Institute campus will include a short talk by Andrew Travers on the Kandinsky-Bayer connection and the book that inspired Bayer and the AMFS season theme, along with a walkthrough of the museum’s current exhibition “Sculpting the Environment: The Three-Dimensional Art of Herbert Bayer.” Join us prior to the Aspen Festival Orchestra concert at 4:00 PM.
Free, open to the public.
