Roderick Cox Back To Performers
Winner of the 2018 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, Roderick Cox has been recognised as a “trailblazer…a conductor who will be amongst the vanguard” (Minnesota Star Tribune). Based in Berlin, Cox has gained international attention for recent appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Grand Opera, and Philharmonia Orchestra (London).
Highlights this season include his debuts with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester and Orchestre National de Montpellier, opera debuts at the Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera, and performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, Aspen Chamber Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and more. Recent and forthcoming highlight appearances include the BBC Symphony, Orchestre de Paris, Dresdner Philharmonie, Minnesota Orchestra, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra and Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
Through his passion for education and diversity and inclusion in the arts, Cox started the Roderick Cox Music Initiative (RCMI) in 2018. The project provides scholarship funds to young musicians of color from unrepresented communities, allowing them to pay for instruments, music lessons, and summer camps.
Born in Macon, Georgia, Cox received the 2013 Robert J. Harth Conducting Prize from the Aspen Music Festival; he has held the David Effron Conducting Fellowship with the Chautauqua Music Festival. Cox was appointed Associate Conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra under conductor Osmo Vänskä in 2016.
