RACHMANINOFF: Symphonic Dances, op. 45
Experience the magic of a student-mentor relationship when Daniil Trifonov teams up with his former teacher, Armenian-American pianist Sergei Babayan. This all-Rachmaninoff program begins with the composer’s youthful 1st Suite for Two Pianos, with its thrilling finale reminiscent of tolling bells and Russian liturgical chant. The more mature 2nd Suite is full of rich melodies which evoke Rachmaninoff’s popular 2nd Piano Concerto, and a dazzling tarantella that had a Los Angeles audience on its feet several years ago. Topping off the program is the two-piano version of the composer’s Symphonic Dances, a tour de force sure to display the virtuosity and almost telepathic connection between these two pianistic powerhouses.
Experience an extraordinary collaboration between a teacher and student “who complement each other perfectly.” (Le Figaro)
