Tune in to watch a free broadcast of this event, live from the Klein Music Tent.

Grammy-winning pianist Daniil Trifonov combines a brilliant technique with profound sensitivity, captivating audiences around the world. Hear him in Glazunov’s rarely performed single-movement Piano Concerto No. 2, which combines folk-inspired melodies with virtuosic passages for the soloist. Composed in the turbulent year of 1917, this optimistic piece has been described as a "radiant gem amidst chaos."

The concert begins with Copland’s Quiet City, written in 1939 as incidental music for an ultimately unsuccessful play about a lonely Jewish boy who played the trumpet to drive away his anxiety. In Amériques, Varese summons a large orchestral force to create a cacophonous soundscape which captures the noises he heard shortly after arriving on the West Side of Manhattan. La Valse is Ravel’s darkly surrealistic deconstruction of the waltz, a sometimes ferocious take on the elegant Viennese dance form.

Hear one of the most astounding pianists of his generation and a wide range of pieces overflowing with orchestral color!

Festival Orchestra concerts run approximately 100 to 120 minutes and vary based on programming.
