AMFS Artist-Faculty, all top musicians from renowned orchestras, opera companies, and conservatories, come together to play their favorite chamber music works.

Immerse yourself in the inner worlds of three fascinating composers in this varied program!

Canadian Brass trumpeter Caleb Hudson’s 15-minute Nothing Less for trumpet, flute, clarinet, violin and cello depicts the Old Testament story of Elijah. Each of the four movements—Still Small Voice, Prophets of Baal, That They Will Know, and Covenant—represents a pivotal moment in Elijah’s life.

Gabriel Fauré’s Second Piano Quartet is a passionate work from his later years which bridges late Romanticism and early Impressionism. The heart of the piece is the haunting slow movement which was inspired by the childhood memory of distant church bells.

Israeli composer Avner Dorman wrote his sextet for trumpet, violin, viola, cello, contrabass, and piano during the Covid pandemic for Orli Shaham and musicians from the Pacific Symphony. It gave him “a sense of connection at a time of isolation.” He and Orli Shaham have collaborated often, and she is featured in this performance.

Also featured on the program is the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, comprising emerging young artists who perform music by prominent living composers and twentieth-century classics, as well as new works by the Festival’s student composers. Always a joyful and creative 75 minutes of music-making.
