Hear top young AMFS wind artists joined by violinist Adele Anthony and conducted by longtime AMFS artist faculty member Joaquín Valdepeñas.

In his early 20s, Beethoven wrote a number of works for his boss, the Elector of Cologne, including the mellow and unpretentious wind octet which opens this program.

The Czech composer Franz Krommer lived in Vienna for most of his career, writing no less than 13 octet-partitas for wind ensemble to fulfill the appetite of minor noblemen who couldn’t afford to keep a full orchestra on hand.

In Weill’s 1924 Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra, you’ll hear traces of Stravinsky and Mahler, Weill’s teacher Busoni, and the cabaret music of Weimar Germany.

Acclaimed vioinist Adele Anthony joins the ensemble for Kurt Weill’s Concerto for Violin and Wind Orchestra, a work known for its unique instrumentation blending solo violin with wind orchestra, percussion, and double basses.
