Sara Erde
Sara Erde is a director and choreographer for opera, theatre, and film. She is honored to return to AMFS where in past seasons she choreographed Renée Fleming's Così fan tutte, and directed Le Nozze di Figaro, and Opera Encounters. Erde is a frequent collaborator with The Metropolitan Opera and a longtime member of their directing staff. As a revival stage director at the Met, she has staged a multitude of operas including La Bohème, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, Madama Butterfly, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Carmen. Erde choreographed the recent Met productions of Don Giovanni, Fedora, Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon Lescaut, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Werther, and was assistant choreographer for Richard Eyre’s production of Carmen.
Other notable credits in opera include director for Maria de Buenos Aires (Alamo City Opera), and Outcast at the Gate (Center for Contemporary Opera), choreographer for Manon Lescaut (Baden-Baden), La Traviata, Madama Butterfly and Ariadne auf Naxos (Berkshire Opera Festival), Carmen (Washington National Opera and the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy), Ercole su’l Termodonte (Festival dei Due Mondi); associate director and choreographer for Roméo et Juliette and Madama Butterfly (Atlanta Opera); associate director for La Forza del Destino and Don Giovanni (Washington National Opera); and assistant director for Le Nozze di Figaro (Santa Fe Opera and Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival). Upcoming credits include choreography for Eugene Onegin at Berkshire Opera Festival and revival stage director for Così fan tutte at The Metropolitan Opera.
