Warren Deck was principal tubist of the NY Philharmonic from 1979–2001 and a member of the Houston Symphony from 1977–79. In 1989, he made his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing Roger Kellaway’s Songs of Ascent for Tuba and Orchestra to critical acclaim.
A former faculty member of The Juilliard School, the Shepherd School at Rice University and the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, Warren has taught masterclasses around the world, including the former Soviet Union, Asia, and South America.
In addition to numerous orchestral recordings with the New York Philharmonic, Warren can be heard on Tuba!, an ensemble of leading tuba and euphonium players from Germany and the U.S. on EMI Angel Records. He also joined the Canadian Brass for four recordings on Sony Classical and Philips labels.
In May 2014, Warren received the International Tuba & Euphonium Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, its highest honor.
Due to a focal dystonia diagnosis, Warren retired from the Philharmonic, and moved to Denver, where he is music director of the Denver Brass.
Warren has been an artist-faculty member of the AMFS since 2002; in fall 2025, he will join the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
