Akira Eguchi is acclaimed worldwide as piano soloist, chamber musician, harpsichord player, and collaborative pianist. He made his New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1991 and has performed in the foremost music centers of the U.S., Europe, and the Far East. Mr. Eguchi has played for President Clinton at the White House and for the Emperor and Empress of Japan in Tokyo’s Hamarikyu Ashahi Hall, and was the featured soloist for the Juilliard Orchestra’s 1997 Asia tour. He has performed chamber music at festivals in the U.S. and abroad; he also has many radio and television credits. He collaborates with such violinists as Gil Shaham, Kyoko Takezawa, and Chee-Yun. Mr. Eguchi has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Philips, Denon, Marquis Classics, Victor, and Kosei Publishing. His solo CDs include his version of Rhapsody in Blue, for NYS Classics. Recipient of numerous awards and prizes, he won the William Petchek Award, the William Schuman Prize, and first prize at the Gina Bachauer International Scholarship Competition and the Brahms Piano Concerto Competition at the Juilliard School. Mr. Eguchi, an active composer, has written cadenzas for a Mozart Violin Concerto, commissioned and performed by Kyoko Takezawa, and for a Haydn Cello Concerto. Born in Tokyo, he received a degree in music composition from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he served as a faculty member. Currently on the faculty of CUNY Brooklyn College, Mr. Eguchi received his master’s degree in piano performance from Juilliard. His web site is www.akiraeguchi.com.
