Jonathan Biss, piano, enjoys a flourishing international reputation, the result of his orchestral and recital performances in North America and Europe and his acclaimed debut CD of works by Beethoven and Schumann for EMI Classics. Noted for intriguing programs, artistic maturity and versatility, and his diverse repertoire, Mr. Biss has performed with such major orchestras as the New York Philharmonic; the Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco symphony orchestras; the Munich and Rotterdam philharmonics; and the Staatskapelle Berlin. Following his debut at the Aspen Music Festival this summer Mr. Biss will debut at Tanglewood, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Risor and Schleswig-Holstein festivals and will return to Ravinia. He represents the third generation in a family of professional musicians including his grandmother, cellist Raya Garbousova, for whom Samuel Barber composed his Cello Concerto, and his parents, violinist Miriam Fried and violist and violinist Paul Biss. A former student of Leon Fleisher at the Curtis Institute, Mr. Biss has received numerous awards, including the 2003 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. He is also the first American chosen to participate in the BBC’s New Generation Artist program. Summer 2005
