Katherine M. Carter
Katherine M. Carter (she/her) is a stage director of theater & opera based in New York. This season, Katherine created a new staging of Nabucco for the Canadian Opera Company and a new production of Dialogues of the Carmelites for Wolf Trap Opera, in addition to engagements with San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Manhattan School of Music, and The Juilliard School.
Last season Katherine directed a world premiere with On Site Opera in New York City, and created new productions of Carousel, La rondine, and Roméo et Juliette.
Frequently in demand for her work with young artists, she has been a guest at The Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, and Wolf Trap Opera. Katherine has also led productions and workshops at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes Opera, New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, Rice University, the New School for Drama, Interlochen Academy for the Arts, and the University of Michigan.
Next season, Katherine directs new productions of Elixir of Love and The Merry Widow.
Katherine is a certified Intimacy Director for theater and opera, trained by IDC Professionals. Her ID work has been seen in numerous productions at The Metropolitan Opera.
