Ju-Fang Liu was appointed principal bassist of the Indianapolis symphony orchestra in 2003. A sensitive and thoughtful performer, she is constantly in demand in various music venues. Ju-Fang has previously taught at DePauw University, Ball State University, and Indiana University in Bloomington. She joined the faculty of the Butler University School of Music in Indianapolis in 2014. She has given performances and master classes in schools and festivals in the U.S., Taiwan, China, and Columbia. She has led orchestral competitions and audition seminars for the International Society of Bassist conventions and the New World Symphony in Miami. She was the bass coach for Carnegie Hall’s NYO2 program in 2022. Ju-Fang has performed with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as principal bassist, and Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra. Her solo orchestra appearances have included the Bottesini (1 and 2), Koussevitzky and Tubin concertos, the latter performed under the baton of Maestro Venzago with her orchestra. Fisherman’s Song. Ju-Fang was a Fellowship student at Aspen in the late 1990s, and she is very excited to be returning as a member of AMFS artist-faculty in 2023.
