JESSE BENJAMIN JONES: ENNEAD (World premiere)
GROFÉ: Table d’Hote for Flute, Violin, and Viola
GABRIELA ORTIZ: Río de las Mariposas
AMFS Artist-Faculty, all top musicians from renowned orchestras, opera companies, and conservatories, come together to play their favorite chamber music works. Immerse yourself in diverse sonorities in this wide-ranging program!
The music of Rome Prize and Guggenheim–winning composer Jesse Benjamin Jones has been described as “striking…elegant and poised” by The New York Times and “engaging…eerie, and well-written” by the Los Angeles Times. Hear a new work by this fascinating compositional voice in its world premiere.
Sometimes subtitled Humoresque, Grofé’s 1945 Table d’Hôte for flute, violin, and viola is a light-hearted, witty affair perfect for a summer afternoon.
The otherworldly and colorful soundscape of Gabriela Ortiz’s Rio de las Mariposas for two harps and steel drum was inspired by the legendary Mexican river Papaloapan where butterflies weave and dance.
Also featured on the program is the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, comprising emerging young artists who perform music by prominent living composers and twentieth-century classics, as well as new works by the Festival’s student composers. Always a joyful and creative 75 minutes of music-making.
